Your Camry Has Side Quests. Here Are 8 Worth Knowing.
You bought the Camry. You connected your phone. You found your preferred seating position after briefly adjusting yourself into a position normally reserved for dental work.
You’re settled.
Then, three months later, someone casually mentions a feature your car has been quietly keeping to itself.
Excuse me? We’ve been commuting together this whole time.
The current generation Camry has a few useful tricks tucked behind familiar buttons and settings. Here are eight worth knowing, especially if yours is a U.S. market 2025 or 2026 model.
Equipment and settings vary, so check the notes before wondering why your LE didn’t secretly turn into an XSE.
1. You can let the hot air out before climbing inside
A Camry parked outside in Houston develops approximately the same interior atmosphere as a countertop air fryer.
Here’s a useful option: remote window opening.
With the feature enabled, pressing and holding the key fob’s unlock button can lower the windows. Depending on equipment and settings, the moonroof may open, too.
Toyota notes that this function may require dealer customization. If nothing happens, ask about enabling it for your exact car. Keep the vehicle in sight while operating it.
Let some trapped heat escape, then get in and let the A/C do its job. Your seat belt buckle may still be considering a career as a branding iron.
2. The mirror selector can unlock a curb saving feature
On cars equipped with reverse linked mirror tilt, selecting L or R on the mirror control enables the mirrors to angle downward in Reverse.
Leaving neither selected disables that function.
That tiny switch position can explain why a feature seems to work one day and disappear the next.
A better view of the ground can help when parking alongside a curb. Your wheels would appreciate the introduction before the two become physically acquainted.
This one depends on equipment. Having power adjustable mirrors alone doesn’t mean your car has reverse tilt.
3. Your wipers have a service position
Before lifting the wiper arms for cleaning or replacement:
Turn the car off.
Within about 45 seconds, hold the stalk in the MIST position for at least two seconds.
Let the wipers move into their service position.
They normally tuck below the hood. Pulling them up from there can cause damage. Lower lifted arms back onto the windshield before operating them again.
It’s a small procedure that can prevent a five minute cleaning job from acquiring an estimate.
4. Your key fob can take a nap
A Smart Key sitting in a drawer doesn’t need to spend its entire existence waiting for its big moment.
Toyota provides a battery saving mode:
Hold the fob’s lock button.
While holding it, press unlock twice.
Look for the indicator to flash four times.
Pressing any fob button cancels the mode. Passive Smart Key functions won’t work while it’s asleep.
It’s useful for a spare key you rarely use.
There’s a second application: washing the car. If water hitting the door handle makes your Camry repeatedly lock and unlock while the key is nearby, Toyota recommends moving the key away or using this battery saving mode.
Your car isn’t enjoying the bath so much that it’s applauding. The handle sensors are reacting.
5. A sluggish touchscreen has a reboot shortcut
If the center multimedia screen becomes unusually slow or unresponsive, Toyota’s multimedia manual provides a restart procedure:
Press and hold the power/volume knob for at least three seconds.
Try it while safely parked.
Think of it as giving the infotainment system a moment to collect itself. Even technology occasionally needs to sit quietly and reconsider its choices.
This is a restart of the multimedia system, rather than a factory reset. If the problem keeps returning, get it checked instead of turning rebooting into your new morning ritual.
6. Your music and the car’s voice don’t need matching personalities
Maybe you enjoy your music at a respectable volume.
Maybe the car’s spoken prompts sound like they’ve been appointed emergency coordinator for the entire county.
Toyota’s multimedia system has a separate System voice level under:
Settings → Sound & Media → Levels → System
The same settings area also separates certain phone audio levels. For navigation running through your phone, check that app’s guidance audio options as well.
It’s worth spending a minute here. A car can sound much more pleasant once every audio source stops competing for employee of the month.
7. One defogger button does two jobs
The rear window defogger also operates the outside mirror heaters on the U.S. models documented in Toyota’s equipment guide.
So when the mirrors are fogged on a humid morning, that button can help clear them along with the rear glass.
The distinction matters: the front windshield defogger and rear window defogger do different jobs.
You may have been using the mirror heaters for months without realizing it. Congratulations on accidentally being prepared.
8. Your sun visor has more coverage than you think
Toyota lists sliding extensions for the Camry’s sun visors. Swing the visor toward the side window and check its extension adjustment before accepting that one very specific sunbeam as your permanent commuting companion.
This may be the least glamorous feature on the list.
It may also be the one you appreciate most when the afternoon sun locates the exact gap between your visor and your face.
Sometimes the best discovery costs nothing, needs no subscription, and has been sitting above your forehead the whole time.
Make the car feel like yours
The nice thing about these little discoveries is that you can use them immediately.
A better parking view. Less annoying audio. An easier wash. A cabin that gets a chance to release some heat before you sit down.
Those details add up when you drive the same car every day.
Have a Camry feature you’re convinced should work but can’t figure out? Text me your model year, trim, and what it’s doing. We’ll sort out whether it needs a setting, a demonstration, or simply for the key fob to wake up from its little nap.
